Emmanuel means God with us. One of my all time favorite Christmas carols is "O Come O Come Emmanuel". One of the reasons I like it so much is because of it's haunting melody in a minor key. This led me to download a 1998 album called Irish Christmas. I went crazy last year downloading Christmas music on ITunes. I didn't really listen to this album other than my favorite song. Tonight, on the treadmill I listened to the songs from Irish Christmas. They were so refreshingly different and beautiful. But also so different that I heard the message of Emmanuel in the music. In Silent Night, instead of singing Christ the savior is born, they sang Christ the redeemer is here. Two words changed my perception. Christ is here. God with us. Emmanuel. I love the music and got the decorating itch from my mother. It is such a fun time and so enjoy this season. But I pray that you know the meaning of Emmanuel this Christmas.
